Plant Inspection Process

The Plant Inspection Station at the Honolulu Airport offers FREE inspections for plants, cut flowers, and plant products going to the continental US.  If someone wants to get material stamped for shipment they can bring it to our office along with a box and tape.  The plant material should be free of any insects, diseases, and soil.  If no pests are found and after the box is sealed we will stamp the box with our USDA release stamp.

Attached you will find a couple helpful documents: a map with directions and hours of operation for our USDA Honolulu Plant Inspection Station, a blank application for obtaining a phytosanitary certificate to export plants or plant products to other countries.

For inspections of plants or plant products going internationally, an application should be filled out ahead of time and sent to the group office email (below).  Customers can also call the Plant Inspection office to let the team know when to expect to come to our office for the inspection and phytosanitary certificate (international).
Honolulu Plant Inspection Station phone number: (808) 834-3240 and our group email: Honolulu.PIS@usda.gov.  If there are questions that you cannot answer feel free to call!
The inspection station is open M-F 8am-4pm, but we do ask that customers come before 3:30pm if possible.  During graduation season there may be a short wait, but typically one box inspection should take about 15 minutes.  If there are several boxes with lots of material, and if we are finding inspects, disease etc., it could take much longer.  There really isn’t a best time to come in, but we do tend to be more busy with cargo on Monday and Tuesday.
